Solar Energy
Due to the high solar radiation in Uganda, the construction of photovoltaik systems is economically feasible in terms of electricity yield. The ‘Kidera – Adopt a Village’ Global Grant is already providing mobile solar lamps for households, Kidera Primary School and the community. A solar battery for the Panyangasi Health Centre III will be supplied as well.
The next stage of development is to construct a photovoltaic system for the entire community of Kidera. The energy is needed to grow and prepare food, illuminate homes, schools and open places (improving security in the night), cool food and medicines, operate Panyangasi Health Center III reliably, provide clean drinking water and enable communication and economic activity.
The medium-term goal is a decentralised micro-grid connected to a biogas plant.
This project is planned to start in 2025 and financial support is actively sought. Cooperation with RC Bonn-Rheinbogen will be intensified.

Clean Cooking
Worldwide, almost one in three people still has no access to clean cooking technologies. In Kidera, the figure is almost 100%. More than half of the wood harvested worldwide is used for cooking and heating, which contributes to climate change and deforestation. In Kidera, women and children spend many hours collecting wood, dung and crop waste to use it for cooking in their huts. Toxic gases and smoke pose a high health and environmental risk.
Today, there are a number of affordable solutions for clean cooking. The use of clean combustion material will be made possible by solar cookers and other modern cooking stoves in Kidera.
The Kidera Primary School has already set a good example by taking structural measures (chimney) to divert the toxic gases in the self-built kitchen house.
This project will start together with the photovoltaik project in 2025.
